NAPLES. Admiral George M. Wikoff, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples, concluded a five-nation tour of Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, North Macedonia and Romania, where he evaluated operational readiness, military mobility and infrastructure in support of NATO’s defence plans.
The visits formed part of JFC Naples’ ongoing assessments supporting the implementation of the Alliance’s regional plans in Southeastern Europe. Wikoff and his delegation assessed strategic transit routes, infrastructure networks, logistical lines of support and operational capacities required to maintain collective readiness across NATO’s southern flank.
“Credible deterrence depends on our ability to move forces where they are needed, sustain them and operate together from the outset – said Wikoff – By working directly with Allies across Southeastern Europe, we are ensuring that our plans are supported by the infrastructure, mobility and operational capacity required to reinforce the region rapidly. Maintaining a robust deterrence and defence posture across the Euro-Atlantic area remains central to preventing conflict and ensuring Allied forces are prepared to respond swiftly to threats from any direction.
Throughout the tour, the JFC Naples delegation conducted direct assessments of national capabilities and facilities, developing an integrated understanding of existing infrastructure, military mobility, storage and accommodation capacity, as well as the national policies and legal frameworks supporting Allied commitments. The delegation also met with national civilian and military leaders to discuss the advancement of military mobility and the connection of national transport systems with broader European strategic transit corridors to facilitate the rapid movement of personnel and equipment.
The assessment tour highlighted the enduring importance of transatlantic unity and burden sharing.
The bond between North American and European Allies remains unbreakable, reinforced by concrete steps taken by Allies to increase defence spending, fulfil defence investment plans and accelerate defence industrial production to strengthen shared capabilities and resilience.
During the engagements, the delegation also reviewed the Alliance’s continued adaptation to emerging threats across multiple domains.
The assessments provided a comprehensive and harmonised understanding of the Allied capabilities, critical infrastructure, institutional mechanisms and regulatory frameworks required to support Alliance operations and activities.
Allied Joint Force Command Naples maintains constant operational vigilance, coordinating multinational activities and joint planning to deter aggression and defend NATO territory.
