Caracas. According to an Aug. 29 report, Venezuela is negotiating a buyback of some of its bonds with a Chinese creditor or creditors, El Mundo reported. The details of this operation aren’t clear, but it might provide an extra infusion of cash for the Venezuelan government, now that it’s locked out of U.S. debt markets. The buyback would be yet another attempt by the Venezuelan government to obtain funds through a one-off operation (Interesting step, after a large US financial firm, Cantor Fitzgerald, has stopped trading Venezuelan debt in accordance with the Treasury Department applied sanctions on the oil producing country – ndr).
