KFOR: U.S. Army Colonel Derek Adam is new Commander of the Regional Command East

Pristina. U.S. Army Colonel Derek Adams assumed command of the NATO-led Kosovo Force Regional Command East at a change of command ceremony held yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Kosovo). It is the 28th rotation of the US military contingent in Kosovo.

Adams is a member of the Iowa Army National Guard’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division and will command the manoeuvre battalion, effects battalion, and other support task forces in Regional Command East.

Each unit supports the safety, security, and freedom of movement for all the communities in Kosovo, in accordance with KFOR’s mandate as per UNSCR 1244 of 1999.

“We are here to support NATO to build peace and stability in the area and contribute to a safe and secure environment –  said Adams -. We will also support the development of a stable, democratic, multi ethnic and peaceful Kosovo.”

As KFOR 27 and the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard cased the colors, signifying the completion of their deployment, and starts the process to go home, the 2nd, 34th Iowa Brigade Combat Team unveils their colors to continue the mission and follow in the footsteps of 27 past rotations.

“It was a great honor and privilege to serve as the Commander for Regional Command East”, said outgoing Commander Colonel Eric Riley, at the ceremony which was attended by Major General Franco Federici, the new commander of KFOR.
